- jamesuExplorerOne of my favorite stupid tourist questions I was asked the summer (1977) I was a Park Ranger on the Avenue of the Flags at Mt. Rushmore.
Tourist: " Where do they put faces in the winter?"
Me, straight-faced: "In the basement of the Visitor Center"
Tourist: "Did you hear that, Martha? The ranger said..."
My experience as a park ranger taught me that the collective IQ of a group of tourists is a very, very small number. There's just something about getting away from home for a period of time. - OzlanderExplorerSeveral years, while on a motorcycle trip, We were in Custer State Park when a herd of Buffalo decided to cross a bridge which was full a cars. Of course all traffic stopped and all the tourists got out with their cameras. There we were, stopped in traffic with no place to go. Buffalo all around. Finally, the buffalo cleared the area and things got back to normal.
- OzlanderExplorerYears ago, I saw a man kicking a buffalo, that was lying down, in the rump.
I assume he wanted a picture of a standing buffalo. - ReneeGExplorerI took this photo several years back from the safety of my TV, in Yellowstone.
- cbshoestringExplorer IIRead this somewhere: Ignorance isn't a sin. It's just one h@!! of an inconvenience.
Maybe Forrest Gump was right...Stupid is, as stupid does.
In other words.....yes there are stupid people. Stupid people do stupid things. That stupidity may be temporary (we have all been there), but if it is an on going problem....Here's your sign. - PegLWExplorerWe've all got to quit saying "how stupid can they get" because so many seem to be taking that comment as a personal challenge! ;)
I have a good friend that worked at the Fishing Bridge store for six months one season and the list of stupid questions and comments she got would fill a book. IQs seem to be at an all time low in this country. - nma33ExplorerWow, how incredibly stupid. I wonder if she tried to pet the cute little grizzly cubs next.
- Jim_ShoeExplorerNo matter how hard the Rangers try, you just can't convince some visitors that they aren't in a petting zoo. I've seen a guy in YNP standing 6 feet from the head of a standing buffalo so he could get a close up.
