Great photos everyone. But how do you go about finding a legal remote location to camp on?
It's almost impossible to find this in the Mid-West, but since we;ve been out West, BLM land is everywhere and it's all free. I've always thought that people favored the West, but now that we're out here, I can see why!
This was a deserted campground we found in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Probably one of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed!!

Red Feather Forest??
Close. That pic was taken north of Walden by Independance Mountain which is West of the Red Feather Lakes area.
Sadly, that area is in the center of the pine beetle infestation. The Colorado forestry department sent out a memo saying that all the mature Lodgepole pine forests in the state will be decimated within the next five years. - nevadanickExplorerAlot of places in the west are getting closed because people that have never been there vote to close it. Its not right if you arent a part of it. Imagine if the people in the west had the clout to close Central park in NY. How well do you think that would be recieved ? Enjoy it while you can. Great pics eveyone, might be a day when thats all you have are the old pics.

Treehugger,
Contact the nearest national forest and ask them about "dispersed camping." I don't know if they have that in Ohio, but that's the key out here in the west.
I'll have to do that. I think I'd enjoy secluded backcountry camping, I know I do when I go backpacking, it'd be great to have my rig sometimes. - RubiranchExplorer

I like that you post a Flag when you camp in our great country that so many people have gave there life so we could enjoy the outdoors in freedom. We just got us a flag for this season. now i just need to decide what way will put it out for our camp spot. I have thought about putting a peice on our trailer tounge to slide the poll into.My wife and I run a family foundation doing Bathroom renovations for the Disabled veterans. We started it because we were proud of our Grandfathers for the service they gave in WW two they were both wounded and needed help when they returned home. So that kind of stuff is close to my heart.
Thank you, we're proud to display our flag. We have one for our home too.
We just drive a 3' piece of rebar into the ground, the pole is PVC pipe. - Treehugger,

Living in the West makes it easier - there are more boondocking sites to choose from where there's so much public land. - TreeHuggerExplorerGreat photos everyone. But how do you go about finding a legal remote location to camp on?
