I believe the road on Antero stops just below 13,800'
Mt. Antero is not a "pass"; but at 14,269' it is the 10th highest peak in CO (Pikes Peak at 14,110 is the 31st highest in CO and at 14,433 Mt Elbert is the highest) and I believe Mt Antero is the highest point in CO you can drive a vehicle.
It may be closed because of land ownership issues down lower, but in the old days, we went to the top of Mt. Bross (14,172') on old mining roads. From there, one used to be able to drive north along the ridge all the way to around 14,200' on Mt. Lincoln.
The parking lot at the top of Mt. Evans is >14,120' and is probably the highest you can drive in CO today. The parking lot at the top of Pike Peak is 14,110'
Rumor has it that someone has actually "driven" (some winching too) a jeep to the top of Mt. Elbert (14,433')! From what I remember, before the road was closed it looks like one could drive to around 14,200'.
So did any of you try Webster Pass or come down Red Cone the year the guy with the Toyota FJ40 had tried to make the drift at the top of Webster before it was open? It has slid sideways off the road on the snow. Talk about pucker factor. It looked like we could have easily pushed it off the mountain without much effort. We had passed a tow truck coming down that had taken one look at it and decided it wasn't worth risking his vehicle to try to rescue it. I wonder what it cost just to get a 4x4 tow truck up there? - DenverDanExplorer

Dan, I can't see the girl.:( You are not the first person to point her out to me, it's been a few years but I could see her then either.
I think I will pring the picture and look at it again.
Well well, I am not the only one who sees her! Amazing... - DenverDanExplorerNo worries, everymilesamemory, I know you were kidding...
I agree about the earthroamer, I could do alot with that $100k also. DW and I were talking about when we go fulltime, and if $$ were no issue we would pull that earthroamer behind the RV for those times we wanted to "rough it" in the backcountry places we couldn't take the RV. But, if $$ were no issue, we would be retired and fulltiming now!
The "girl" has a puffy face, it is eroded away just above her forehead, and I can see 2 eyes and a nose. Of course, there are lotsa things I "can see", but that is just me and my 5 personalities!
I just find that picture fun, and a great conversation piece. - everymilesamemoExplorerDan, after your description of her, I see her torso, the belly button and the arms crossed along with her legs, but I cant see the face.
It must have been the distraction with the whole picture shown.
I like the new Earthroamer, but 100,000 without options?!? I could build one hell of a jeep with a nice roof tent for a quarter of the cost, and use the rest of the money to travel full time for a few years.
Earthroamers are beautiful, but so unrealilistcally priced, I cant see spending that amount on them
I was only joking with the Laying off the sauce stuff, I hope you know that. - RubiranchExplorer

Thanks Mike, I do enjoy everyones pictures.
I LOVE camping.:B - RubiranchExplorerDan, I can't see the girl.:( You are not the first person to point her out to me, it's been a few years but I could see her then either.
I think I will pring the picture and look at it again. - DenverDanExplorerBTW, I belive that the EarthRoamer XV-JP, the first camper to conquer the Rubicon could do Red Cone easily. I don't know if the XV-LT or the Sportsmobile 4x4 could do so, though. There is some real tight stuff as you ascend the south side, tight corners, trees, and rocks.
That EarthRoamer WV-JP could do so, and should, considering the $110k base price before options.

Do you see the image of the girl in the side of the mountain in my last picture? Her arms are crossed and she has shoulder length hair.
I need some of that Rocky Mountain Whiskey you're drinking!! I dont see that and you had me looking at the dang picture for a few minutes like one of those Where's Waldo things...LOL
Lay off the sauce
Funny, I laid off the sauce in Sept 2000. Haven't had a drop since. Since you mention it, I took a picture of that same mountain back around 1984, and I a friend pointed out the image of the girl. I go back 20+ years later, take a similar picture, and I can still see her. Her left cheek is just below the sign indicating the summit (a little white thing in the picture). She has puffy cheeks, the top of her head is eroded away. She appears to be laying on her back, her body is slightly leaning to the right as you see the picture. You can see her arms folded, wearing a bracelet on her left wrist. You can also see her hair over the shoulder on the right side of her head (left as you look at the picture). You can see a belly button then 2 legs below it. She is about 3/4 the length of the mountain.
Others have seen it too, and many of them don't drink either. Go ahead, look again! Here is the image without all of the distraction.

I'll bet the Tiger or Earthroamer or Class B/B+ manufacturer might work out some kind of special reward for one of their customers who made it and then allowed them to use the photo(s) in their advertising."
I don't know if my Tiger could do this. No lockers, no limited slip. Plenty of power at the 10K feet or so that I've had it up to. It's certainly done everything I've thrown it at, except I backed off a couple of days ago from a steep 50 feet or so with really big bumps. That definitely looked like jeep country to me.
Maybe a Tiger could do it with a different driver. One Tiger owner recently did the White Rim Trail.
A Sportsmobile 4x4 could undoubtedly do this trail. Take a look at some of the photos on their website. - Mello_MikeExplorerThis post has become so popular I think it's time to make this a sticky. :)
