Ditto on Custer SP. and the Black Hills area in general. On my first visit, I was tent camping with my parents when I was about 8 years old. I went into a drug store with my Dad to get some insect repellent but they didn't have any. They didn't carry any brand. The druggist explained that there wasn't any standing water in the Black Hills, so no place for mosquitos to breed. That's probably not true anymore.
If you want to see the wildlife, early morning or late afternoon is best. In the heat of the day, the wildlife hides in the trees.
