I'm another one who truly believes that "getting away" actually means getting AWAY. We prefer the state parks, national parks and COEs. We steer clear of the "parking lot" style cgs where your neighbor is 12 feet from you unless we're only overnighting and continuing our journey.
We've always loved to visit small historic towns, visit some small music festivals and generally take the quiet roads. Even our grandchildren voluntarily put down their devices and actually talk to us on these trips. Sometimes I think they bury themselves in their devices to shut out the daily noise because they're quick to ditch them when it gets quiet and then start talking to us.
