Yuma

If you are comparing Yuma winter weather with any other place in AZ, Yuma will measure milder, with less wind/dust than most if not all of the other popular snowbird destinations. January weather comparisons A comparison of wind and air quality will also favor Yuma. Sure Tucson and PHX metro areas will have more amenities, they should given the population.

In Yuma we can have the kayaks launched in 5 minutes after leaving the house, we could not do that in either PHX or Tucson. I can pick all the free lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower we can eat...thanks to the neighboring farms, I can pick grapefruit, oranges, tangelos, pecans, all winter in our yard...and home grown tomatoes in Feb. We can be in MX in 30 minutes, or on the SD beach in 3 hours. Bottom line is Yuma is not for everyone, but to disparage Yuma because it does not suit you, is doing everyone a dis-service... we are all different, we want different things and for the moment, Yuma provides most of what we desire in a winter destination.

I think it is a fair statement but as said friends are the reason for going to the same rv park or area.

Sorry I just can't recommend Yuma as a destination for the Winter!

We went to Yuma for a week several years ago - about 4 days to long of a stay. Only if you had a lot of friends that you wanted to be with that insisted on Yuma could I say that would be a good place to go. Or if you really, really needed a lot of meds and needed to make several trips across the border.

Any of the towns around either Phoenix or Tucson have RV parks with better restaurants, museums, attractions, shopping, etc., nearby for about the same price.

I asked my parents during a visit why they were in Yuma? Their reply was after the first year they returned to be with the friends they met.

Somehow it alluded them that for one more year somewhere else the same would occur. They moved from bump pull to MH to single wide to double wide all in two adjacent parks on 4th Ave South. Capri was the last one. They had workers take advantage of them, things stole from their yard and two bank employees steal three thousand dollars from a savings account. I worked in banking and was able to get the bank to replace the missing funds. However it was a very trying event at their age.

They did get good care at the Yuma Hospital. Which is true for most of the Arizona hospitals that regularly treat grey hairs.

We stop in Yuma in December each winter before we head to southern California, we found a nice lot rental in the foothills close to the desert (good neighbours and $300/month all services included) The Christmas lights and parade in the foothills is nice. Last winter we stopped for a couple of days at a RV park on the way back through in late February/early March, we found Yuma at that time to be too busy for our liking, heavy traffic and busy stores.

What you decide depends on your wants/needs.

If you are set on Yuma, Oh Well. We think the East Valley of Phoenix is much better. Mesa, Apache Junction or Gold Canyon. Many more choices and community actives like theaters, plays, lakes, shopping, baseball etc!

We personally like Gold Canyon because we are out just the right distance with everything just a short drive West on Hiway 60.
