Date of Original Post

I’m not sure, but I thought it used to be on that home page that Posts were dated the date of  their origin. Now they appear to be dated with the date of the most recent posting. So I ended up reading through 10 year old posts that someone recently added a (probably way beyond appurtenant) comment to. It’s fine by my to include it to the “most current” list, but leave its origin date (i.e.: the 10 year old date of original posting) in place on the home page.

  • And users should not be allowed to post anonymously. I understand that this comes from new users signing up but never confirming their information in the confirmation email. They should not be allowed to post until they finish signing up - confirming their information. Not only would this make them more accountable and engaged but stop some of the spam.

  • Yep, newbie/anonymous posters responding to decades old posts bubble to the top and date stamp it with the date of the response. This has been my biggest complaint since the change from the old format. It clogs up the flow of the page and doesn't serve anyone. The person who responded never seems to come back and if they did, they'd probably never be able to find their question buried in an old post. And no one responds to questions in very old posts anyway. Lock posts older than a year (with exceptions for sticky posts) and force new users to ask questions in a new topic. That should increase traffic and newbie participation. If I were to guess they land here from a google search and can't see how old the posts are. A simple message "this topic has been locked due to being x years old, please post your question in a new topic".
