How do you plan on putting the pigtailed splice in a box?

I came across the special RV receptacles when I started the mod to add another GFCI receptacle in the hallway of my RV. Looks like I might not be able to pull this apart without damage so I am thinking of using a pigtail splice as shown on this web page. That way I can leave the existing receptacle alone and not open the back of it and instead install my standard wall GFCI receptacle in a clear panel in the hallway.

I replaced mine with residential type boxes and outlets. One thing to consider is that the very small, shallow boxes only allow, by code, one cable so that you can't use them in the middle of a run.

Yep, and make sure to use the screw terminals, not those abominable "back stab" terminals that are little better than using IDC outlets.

It's one of those "IT ALL DEPENDS" ... those quick to say they are the same might be giving seriously bad and hazardous advice. A lot of the 110V outlets used in RVs are those that don't require a box and are basically self sealing. If you have those you can't simply put a regular home outlet in it's place w/o creating a potentially hazardous and life threatening situation should a problem with the outlet occur. You need to make sure you get either an outlet that doesn't require a box or one easy way is to use the surface mount outlets that are designed to be used in either a specially designed for their use shallow or deeper box.

Please be careful about who you listen to here and do your homework and those blindly advising they are the same probably should not be commenting on things which they obviously don't understand.

In fact don't even believe me, but PLEASE, PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you blindly plow ahead.

Mine are the same as the picture RoyB posted. As I do modifications or repairs I am replacing mine with conventional screw type outlets. I dont like those IDC (Insulation Displacement Connectors) for high current loads (hair driers, curling irons, heaters, etc.) Too small of contact area with the wire. With the vibrations caused from going down the road, the spring loaded connection will loosen. Then you will have a voltage drop and/or arcing which will lead to heating, oxidizing, and more arcing, melting of the insulators and the fixture, and possible fire.

All of mine were cheap and flimsy. I installed about 4 extra outlets in my 5ver and changed all the original ones out for household ones. Had enough Romex to change them.

Most RV receptacles have no box behind them and some walls are too thin to accomodate standard residential boxes.
There may even be problems with some getting sufficient slack to route the Romex into a shallow box.

The typical RV outlets are very cheap and flimsy. However they can be replaced with quality household units.
