110V receptacles ??

Anybody know if the 110 volt receptacles in an RV are the same as in a house? I have a receptacle that has cracked (plastic) and I need to replace it.

It's one of the receptacles in a cabinet for my TV.
  • Hi,

If there is room I would urge you replace it with one that has a box and screw terminals.

I did all but three of mine, so now I can safely run heavy loads.

You will probably find the slim low profile pinch type receptacles being used in your trailer.

These do not take up much room and are very popular among the RV manufacturers installing on flat surfaces..

Being a pinch type the wires are pushed in a cutting jaw which creases the copper wire and makes them very easy to break if bent.

Also when installed they do not usually leave you any room to replace them making you have to install a junction box first so you can gain enough wire to install a new receptacle.

If I have room I will replace all of mine with the regular house type 120VAC receptacles with a PVC electrical box...

  • No, many are a combined box and receptacle.
The Romex cable feeds into the back, connection is made when the back of the receptacle is sqeezed onto the front. RV deigner outlets

The GFCI receptacles are the same.
  • I dont think they are, at least the ones in my 99 Keystone......I took one out one day and it seemed flimsier...plus, it locked into the wall with some sort of swivel tab.

I am sure a house unit could be used easily enough
  • They are usually NOT the same.

The ones used in RVs are cheap flimsy junk.

You can easily replace the RV outlets with standard outlets.
