There are many web sites which recommend storing Li at 40 to 50%, again for longest life. So Li owners, if they want best life span, get to start trips with batteries that are only at 50% state of charge.
That leaves really just one advantage for LI. Weight.
Li are not forgiving of abuse. SiO2 are.
So the batteries get stored at 50%, why not start using them at 50% and charge along the way? Or, unless the trip was a spur of the moment thing charge them the day before?
There are more advantages than just weight.
It seems that your sort of grasping when comparing lfp to Si02 with no real life experience other than theoretical.
I've openly given my hands on experience with my setup after going on 5 years of fulltime mostly boondocking use.
Days boondocking
2016_ 200 of 261 days
2017_ 365
2018_ 365
2019_ 344 of 365 days
2020_ as of Dec 21, 272 out of 355 days.
As of today, 12/21/20
1,546 (boondocked) of 1,711 days. (35%-45% DOD_boondocking, 10%-20% DOD_ while on hookups)
We're on the 27th day since our last full charge to 14.2v (100% soc) by solar, before that there was 12 days of psoc use. Lowest soc was 28% and still using high draw items at that soc (coffee maker 84a, microwave 144a). During this period of time the generator was used 4 times, 3 times for 1 hour or 20% soc boost (100ah), 1 time for 1.5 hours or 30% soc boost (150ah). As long as the sun is out we're average 200-225ah (40-45%) production by solar. This is the norm for the winter season and the 5th winter season the system (batteries) of this use or abuse.
In the entire 5 years the batteries have not been broken down for cell Balancing or "equalization" the solar and "bms" takes care of it all and no the cells aren't perfectly match at the exact voltage, never have been since day 1.
The only thing Si02 has going for it is the "initial" up front cost and charging at a lower temp or am I missing something?
