Added Onan 4.0 to TT

Here are a couple of pic's of an Onan 4.0 BFA that I paid $250 for and then added to the rear rack of my 27' TT. I wired in a remote on/off start switch to the inside of the kitchen. I had a diamond plate cover made for it for roughly $200(from my measurements and cut outs) and I then secured it to my TT. Works great for running the A/c and microwave or anything else. I decided to not wire it into the inverter so I just need to plug in the shore power tio the outlet that I added to the inside of the enclosure. The clearance or air specs for the 4.0 are in place with the enclosure too so no safety concerns. Only complaint I have is that it did reduce the tongue weight of the TT and it doesn't tow as good as I wish b/c of it. The 4.0 BFA is about 235# and the cover adds another 30# or so. Previously, I had a 400# Yamaha Raptor 250 quad on a similar rack with around 600 miles on it with no issues other than the reduced pin weight issue.     I used a plastic boat fuel tank. Think I purchased it a Walmart. Can't find the old metal kind anymore.

    50 pounds moved from the extreme rear to the extreme front would have a disproportionate amount of leverage change. It may help more than you think, especially if you add another pair of GC batteries.

    I currently have 2-6V batteries on there and thought about the spare tire location but the tire only weighs about 45-50# and think it isn't worth the effort? I also travel with my fresh water tank full (60 gal). Thanks for the suggestions though!

    You could move the spare tire and put it under the tongue. Adding another battery as well

    This may be a good opportunity to add a couple of 6V batteries onto the tongue. They weigh about 60-70 lbs.

    I add as much stuff as I can "up front" to try and help. It did change the tongue weight but I don't know how much? I can feel it especially when passing over those ridges or crests in the road with the foreword and backward surges. Still worth the luxury of having power for everything.

    I was wondering if your hitch weight has changed and if it effected your towing. Adding the generator plus the battery has to add up to a fair amount of weight.

    You might try moving some of the stuff you carry with you to the front of the trailer to offset the weight you are carrying in the rear.

    I can feel it but it has the OE bushings on the mounts and spins at 1800 rpm's so it is slower than a regular construction generator. Kind of purs lol. It's also at the far end of the rv.
