Adding a slide toppe/awning

Has anyone added their own slide topper/awning to their camper? We purchased a used TT last week, and wouls like to add a slide topper to protect the top from debris. We have a local guy that works on RV's and TT and does great work, but I'm just wondering if it would be pretty simple and straight forward to install it my own self.

Thanks

  • Super easy. Ive done a few and just did the one on my new Puma. About 90 minutes. Helps with 2 people. As with the poster above. Lots of screws!. I went with a Dometic Slide Topper. My other trailers had this one and worked great so I stuck with them this time around. American RV Company for me had the best price. After having them I would never go without one. Esp with our second trip with the new trailer. I did not have it installed yet and we got a freak snow storm the 1st weekend in May and when I slide the slide out in , a lot of snow was still up there, got under the seal ,melted and completely soaked our new interior floor and carpet....

I basically mount the extension arm brackets up snug into the corners of the slide out flanges. From there I use the directions to measure up from there in order to screw in the long bracket. Once that's done it takes 10 more minutes to slide the topper in place and setup !
  • Just but 5 on my Montana this weekend, bought CareFree SOKIII.

pretty easy job, after the first one and learning the ins and outs

its just a little time consuming lots of screws...measure twice and

    double check

bought mine on PPL web site
  • Just did my 3 recently with help from a friend on the m a in slide. Got my toppers from http://toughtopawnings.com. VERY HAPPY with them.
  • Put 3 of them on my trailer last month. Scaffolding, ladders, drills, friends and family. Had them done in about 5 hours which included a quick cookout.
  • As long as what you're mounting it to is solid I see not problem. What's behind the walls is always a puzzle.
  • I did mine several years ago. Much like you I had purchased a used trailer without toppers and wanted to add them. My trailer had the rails on the side so I didn't have to do that part. I set up some scaffolding and it was a fairly easy job from there.
  • Getting someone that knows what they are doing with anything that penetrates your roof or sides is worth their weight in gold. Go with the proven guy for sure.
