Exactly what is it you would like to do with the roof? Are not most RV's built in such a way that the interior fittings, cupboards etc. are a major component of the structural strength? Would these things not have to be positioned to do that?

I can see weight will be a big factor. But if cabinetry provides significant structural strength in an RV, I have bigger problems than I think! :-)
