Would like to mount some coat hooks or a wood strip with some hooks on the wall just inside the entry door. What would be the best way to attach them to the wall? Not sure if wood screws would hold, ...

Get the 3M command strips with metal hooks. The plastic hook ones break after 2 or 3 years.
