Digital Thermostat w/ Hi/Lo fan speed

Our first camper had non-ducted A/C. The thermostat only controlled the heater. We changed to a digital thermostat from home depot for something like $20 and it was a great upgrade.

Our current camper has ducted air. We would like to replace the thermostat with a digital version. I don't want to lose the low/high fan speed option on the A/C. How are people addressing this?

  • My thermostat has not been removed yet, only examined. None of the 8 soldered connections is labeled in any way. Both sides of the circuit board have been examined.
It occured to me that one or more of the extra wires may be due to the fact that my existing thermostat has the ability to select 3 fan speeds. Don't know. Any help would be appreciated.
  • Did you write down what terminals they were connected to on the old thermostat?
  • I'm new to posting and I apparently posted to the wrong forum without reply. Perhaps you folks can help.
I am trying to replace my 2012 Komfort 5th wheel thermostat with a digital (Hunter?) model. Instructions I have found on this forum have been very helpful except that all the wiring diagrams I've looked up show a different number and color wire array than I have.
My wires are, top to bottom: Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Brown, Grey, Purple, and Orange with a Black stripe. Of these, the Brown, Purple and Orange do not appear on any diagram I have found. All diagrams show a White wire which I don't have. The wire connections in my thermostat are not labeled.
    Can anybody provide any insight?

My Apex came with the Dometic Single Zone LCD Thermostat. It does in fact have hi and low fan speeds, and controls the AC, and heat.
    Model # 3313193.xxx Cool/Furnace

It has lo Fan. Where the fan runs continuously, and the compressor cycles on, and off. Ditto for the hi speed setting. Compressor cycles on and off, but fan stays on.

In auto The fan speed will vary depending on the difference between the temp set point, and the room temperature, and will cut off when the set point is reached. I really like that it slows down on it's own.

    Hope this helps
  • Thanks for all the imput. I have the Dometic with the Duotherm thermostat. Not really interested in the OEM option that requires swithcing out the box in the a/c unit. We go back and forth between high and low fan speeds all the time. High for quicker cooling, low for less noise. The Hunter thermostat with the add on SPST switch from the links above seems like the best option for me.
  • I did the digital replacement but didn't see a real need for the additional 2 speed fan switch.
Just wired up the fan high speed.......never used the low speed anyway.

The digital T-stat controls temps so much better.
