The thread I was using could have been really old. It was in my 85 year old grandmothers sewing kit, so I'm going to get new thread before making my next attempt at sewing anything.

When we bought our new Coachmen Freedom Express, my wife decided that she wanted to cover all the fabric so that it will last. Double bed fitted sheet for the jackknife sofa and thee regular double sheets for the u shape dinette. each sheet starts under the bottom cushion wraps around then gets tucked in between then goes up the back cushion and gets wrapped around the back. Looks just fine colors match and we take them in the house every few trips to wash them. After owning the TT for 3 plus years the fabric on the cushions looks the same as when we bought it new.

I think we may use the sheet idea for our first few trips. I've been hemoraging $$$ on the RV recently, so it may take a backseat to some other projects. I may take this on after the new year.

Right now we're leaning towards making covers for the dinette and buying a slip cover for the sofa.

The bottom cushion on my jacknife was starting to come apart at the seams. I went to several upholstery shops and the price to repair or recover was out of sight. I bought a slipcover from the slipcover shop (OP post) and was quite satisfied. Well made and fast service. Only thing is when measuring the thickness of the cushions, add a few inches -- it has elastic all around the bottom and it could have been just a little bigger on the bottom. For now, if any other cushions go bad, I will probably do the same thing.

sounds crazy and probably not what you are looking for, but I discovered a standard double bed size fitted sheet fits my jack-knife sofa fairly well. My upholstery is in good shape, just wanted to cover the suede when my mom and her CAT joined me for the weekend.

I will continue watching and looking at pictures on this thread, as I hope to move from my TT to Class A soon and will likely buy used MH and will want new uphholstery.

We're going to give the dinette cushions a try 1st. I also looked at the sofa and it looks to be covered like car seats with hog rings. It might not be too difficult to cover, but we'll find out soon enough.

I have an entry level Kenmore that is 32 years old and I have used it on all types of fabrics. A few years ago I used it to stitch up some vinyl to cover the kick board on our trailer sofa. The trick is to use the proper needle and thread for the job.

What we have is an entry level $250 Singer. Should we even bother with this machine?
