I'd like to try making one, but my last sewing attempt didn't go well (my wife literally had to stop me as I went to throw the machine because the thread kept breaking). I typically don't shy away from trying new things, but me & finess don't typically go together.
I was watching this video and it seems simple enough, but I'm sure it's not. This might be a project I talk my wife into since she has patience.

If you have a decent QUALITY sewing machine (we have a PFAFF and it makes that machine really work) you should be able to sew upholstery.. A few requirements however is having the correct thread (upholstery thread is thicker and heavier than standard thread), correct needle and correct tension settings.
Thread size and setting up the correct tension is really key to success and will require a few practice runs on some similar thickness scrap materials before committing to the actual material you are planning to use.
We have often found decent deals on upholstery material at JoAnn fabric stores in the scrap bins so you can practice without breaking the bank..
