From the diagram you provided I agree that a 50 amp switch is not needed. Knowing this, I did go back and reread the first post and as I read it it still sounds like your intent was to put the switch in front of the power panel electrically, not in one of the branch circuits.
I guess I am just not "seeing" it the same way you are.
Per the circuit diagram a DPDT switch rated for 20 amps would be safe to use.
