HI Everyone,
I installed the Ecobee Smart SI in my travel trailer last spring. I LOVE IT. yes it will run off 12 volt dc, yes their tech support was awesome.
I had a manual domestic version with heat and cool switch settings. I did a direct wire for wire swap with the manual domestic version.
The biggest issue I have was using the original C and RH wires to power the thermostat. Whenever the heat would kick on the furnace motor would drop the voltage below what the ecobee could handle and it would reboot the thermostat.
Since the furnace fan was running after the reboot, the thermostat worked fine until the next heat cycle. Then it would reboot all over again. (this didn't hurt the thermostat but annoyed me)
**** I fixed this last weekend, above the thermostat I have a switch for the rear bunk slides. I tapped off + (RH) and - (c) from the slide out switch because I knew it was on a separate circuit.
All works amazing now.
Also to put to rest the port thing. Once you have connected the Smart SI to the wifi provided by the campsite, park, mifi, etc. that's it. The Smart SI uses the same port as webpages do (port 80) which is always open. Once your connected to wifi you should be able to control the Ecobee from your smart device.
Did I mention I love mine.
- I needed it for the auto changer from heat to cooling as we lived in the trailer for 2 months last summer. (while our house was being built)
- I wanted it so I could control it from my smart phone and plus it's super cool.
I don't have any finished pic but can get some if anyone wants.
