I am looking into installing an after market of some sorts exhaust brake.. I have an 2009 F-350 with tow haul 6.4 ... Does the Banks brake or one similar work better then the factory tow-haul mode? Not having any issues , just looking to hit some hilly areas over the next year or two....are there heating up issues inside the turbo for these types of add- ons?
A Diesel engine has very little useful engine/compression braking.
It doesn't matter which manufacturer you are discussing.... For vehicles which do not have a factory or aftermarket exhaust/turbo brake, the tow haul mode on the automatic transmission does nothing more than provide nicely timed downshifts with a locked torque converter.
Comparing the two is like night and day. Adding an exhaust/turbo brake to an engine that didn't come with one from the factory is a huge upgrade.
