Gas tank conversion. Gas to Diesel

Evening everyone.

So quick question. I have an external fuel tank that I purachsed from transfer flow for my ATVs. We are selling the ATVs, already sold the trailer we used to transport them but the guy didn’t want the 40 gallon Auxiliary tank. It’s gasoline right now.

I’m thinking if I can convert that over to diesel I would keep it and use it for my house generator which is diesel. I already have an extra diesel tank in my truck.

Just wondering how much of a pain this would be.

Thanks in advance.

  • Well then that works out great!

Thank you all for the information.

Guess I’ll go pick up some yellow paint and attach the tank to my other trailer to be used again
  • Diesel is not as volitile as gasoline so no problem just rinsing it with diesel or kerosine and repainting it yellow. The problem is reusing a diesel tank for gas. Tanks for gasoline have to be built and certified for gasoline usage.

    X2.
I'd just use up the gas and fillerup!
There's no need to flush, clean or otherwise condition the tank.

I have one 130 gal tank in the back of my truck that is probably switched back and for a three or four times a year between gas and diesel. Just use up what's in it and put the new stuff in it.
