I have a frame mounted hitch on the back of my fiver with a heavy duty cargo carrier. I keep my 5 gallon gas can back there and my honda 3000. My Cargo carrier and frame would take a pretty good impact to be affected or should I say to cause a explosion. I also move the same cargo carrier to my front receiver hitch when using my truck camper. But I don't put the gas can on the front. It is very handy on the 5th wheel being in the back as that's where my plug in is at. I have driven tens of thousands of miles and have had no issues. There is very little vibration when running. If we are going to boondock at the beach for several days it takes two of us to pull the hitch with cargo carrier and honda 3000 out and set down 10 feet or so from the rig for all day and night running the AC. I have found this to be very handy for my Honda 3000. But like I said it is mounted on a heavy duty frame mounted hitch.
