Here's an option for a DIY Macerator Pump using a garbage disposal.

Hi,

I bought a maserator pump at West Marine. I was somewhat surprised at how much less a Marine maserator is than a RV one. I think it was less than $100. It came with a 1-1/2" inlet and outlet. I was able to convert to a 1" ID clear tubing, then used several sections of 3/4" PVC tubing to make it to the outhouse that I was parked near. I guess I was using 3 each 5' PVC sections and about 50' of clear tubing.

3/4" garden hose is much smaller, and about 1/2 the free open space of the 3/4" PVC. It took about 10 minutes to drain my 40 gallon black water tank.

j/k, that's a great job and about as inexpensive as it gets. Nice find on the marine macerator!

I found a macerator with a 3" male inlet. Mated it to a clear hose fitting with 4" of 3" radiator hose from a diesel shop. I think the three inch Jabsco is more like $100.

Nice set up! I went with the sewer solution for around $100.00 and have never been happier. I don't have to worry about a 12 volt hook up and no problems.

Garbage disposals are very good macerators, and they do achieve some centrifugal pumping. However garbage disposals do not have positive displacement pumps and can only generate 6-10' of head pressure (~2-4psi) at best. In addition, they are bulky and require 115Vac to operate…
Definitely not the right choice for me!

The Sewer Solution is a very nice product! However it requires water -lots of water- to operate. Since I exclusively boondock, I can't always be sure that I'll have access to a pressurized water source.

Ummmmm... While boondocking, where would you pump your black tank to? Seems to me that nearly all dump stations have water available.

Yes, dump stations usually do have water… and at a dump station I would probably just use the stinky slinky because it's easier and faster than the macerator pump.

When an RV dump station isn't available I empty the black tank wherever I can do so safely and legally; Pit toilets, port-o-potties, a residential or commercial, sewer/septic system clean-out port, my external Tote-Along tank, etc.

Of course I would much prefer to have a pressurized water source, especially for rinsing my black tank.

Great idea on the maserator pump!
I did the same years ago. I just ordered another Seaflo maserator pump from Amazon at a good price for a spare as my old one is dragging some.
Don't want to be caught without one!
