Has anyone replaced this type with LEDs?
That #921 wedge base bulb is very common, and there are numerous types of LED replacements for them. Here is a picture of one type, showing 3 variations which use 5050 SMDs (sometimes call Tri-Chips because each 5050 SMD contains 3 LEDs):

I used the one above that has 9 each 5050 SMDs in my swivel reading lights. They work fine, and you can get them for as low as buck each on eBay with free shipping.
They also make similar wedge base bulbs that use 1210 (also called 3528) SMDs, which would be a good choice if you want a little less light (perhaps for a mood light).
To find #921 wedge base LED bulb replacements on eBay, search for: "921 LED SMD white" without the quotes, and select sort by "Price + Shipping - Lowest First". If you want to restrict searches to a type of SMD, include that in the search parameters (for example, include 5050 or 1210 or 3528 in the search string). Also, for cheap items like these, I usually prefer to just buy them rather than bid on them, so I restrict the display to "Buy It Now" by selecting the appropriate tab at the top of the search results page.
Here are a couple of pics of other 921 type variations:

Best wishes....
