Height was measured from just below mattress surface to bottom edge of window. Covered it with fabric, did frilly puff cushion border around top and down sides. Sounds like a good way to add a headboard. My wife has been asking for something padded for my daughters room for a while, so I'm sure I'll eventually be cutting a backer for her.
