I have not had any flow reduction to the existing vents. There were only two, and I think the furnace (25k btu) really likes 3 or 4. The furnace actually seems a bit more efficient now since the heat exchanger gets more air flow and doesn't run as hot.
I'm going to do the A/C as well if I can figure out how to get into the ceiling ductwork without ripping everything apart.
The heater vent I bought is adjustable, it's just hard to see. It pivots, and the little knob in the center opens and close vanes behind the grille. It will pretty much shut off completely, which is nice if you need to do anything stinky.
