I agree with Ragflo it would be good to see some pics of your finished work. Last fall I upgraded my 30 amp service to a 50 amp using a Progressive Dynamics PD5500 AC distribution panel. In the planning stage at that time was the install of an inverter that uses a pass through to a subpanel so I ordered the PD5500 with their option 6 which combined in the same panel, the 50 amp main service and a 30 amp sub panel. At the time I replaced my old 30 amp main with the 50 I just wired in on the 50 amp main side till I get to wiring the sub panel, then I"ll just be moving a few circuits from the main to the sub panel.
