Installing roof mount satellite

Hey guys, ive got a Nissan NV van that im customizing and im wanting to get the winegard pathway x1 installed, but Camping World is wanting $400 for the labor alone. That seems pretty steep, considering $400 is what I paid for my espar to be installed, and I cant imagine this being more labor intensive than installing an espar. Has anyone ever installed one of these yourself? If so, is it very hard to do? What all do you have to do? Thanks.

  • It should not take any additional wiring but there is a roof mount kit that includes the metal plates used to screw the antenna down as well as the roof cover plate (where you drill a hole) and an on/off switch for inside.

Yep. This van is going to be used for hauling freight. It would be a pain in the butt to set up a tri pod every time im waiting on a load, usually at a truck stop.

Based upon Camping World's labor rates, that's about correct. Don't confuse time with labor hours. If you can do it yourself you will save a ton of money. If you don't think you can and you want someone to do it right, pay a pro. I have installed many and it's easy (or not!). Will they also wire the receiver to the various TV's? Will it be setup for 1 receiver or 2 (3)? Is there satellite TV wiring available or will Camping World be installing this (HDMI cabling to all TV's)? So much you have not included here but that may be because you did not ask all of the right questions of CW.
Want an opinion? I have millions of them....
Don't install ANY dome. Have them install a Winegard Trav'ler and enjoy satellite TV the way it was meant to be viewed.

Its just one receiver/ one tv. Ive wired a receiver to a tv in my house, I would have to think its similar. No, there is no wiring in the van. Its just a cargo van that I am converting. The pathway x1 comes with coax cable to go to the receiver, but then says if you roof mount it you need to purchase extra wires. I don't understand what the difference between roof mounting and using a stand would be. Why would you need extra cables for that? The guy I talked to didn't tell me ****.

  • They are ripping you off. The X1 with the necessary Winegard mounts takes about 1/2 hour to screw to the roof. I had to make special mounts for mine since it is installed on a sloped part of the roof.
