If you are concerned about the cost of a Hot Rod, wait till you price a tankless.

It's not the price of the unit itself, it's the cost of installation. I recently got a quote for my S&B and 2/3 of the cost was the installation that consisted of nothing more than taping into the 3/4" gas line 4' from where the thing would be mounted. There's already electrical there for the ignitor as well as the hot/cold water and drains.
Did have another plumber tell me most companies are getting out of the tankless business and most of his work is now trying to fix or maintain installations done by others. Basically it sounds like a good idea, but they still haven't worked out all the bugs and details.
