at 1700 amps that starter pack must be huge. That's the range my 160 pound 8-D is rated for. On the plus side, it can jump start anything including the neighbors semi.
I agree with the money would be better spent on a better battery bank. Running the existing battery down like you are will shorten its life considerably. Adding a second deep cycle would be more power than the starter pack and always be there when you need it, no fuss.
You might also think of getting a couple of LED lights for use while dry camping. Just a few that you can put in the lights you use the most will greatly reduce the load on your battery. Since you see hook ups most of the time, I would think the regulated type would be best as they could stay in all of the time.
