Just installed a new converter

My old Parallax 55 amp converter gave up the ghost. 5 resistors and a toroidal core transformer shorted to the iron core. After reading about this model I decided to replace it with something better, at least I hope it is. This one cost less than a replacement and seems to have better reviews.

I installed a Progressive Dynamics PD9260CV Inteli-Power Converter Charger 60A with Charge Wizard. I thought I had enough room but in the back of the cavity there was a angled shield to protect something that I didn't want to investigate. I ended up turning the entire power center upside down so the converter would be mounted above the 120v panel. I had to modify the metal box but it will just have better air flow now.

It was simple to hook up. I had to cut off the 120v plug and wire it directly into the circuit breaker panel. Then lock down the heavy 12v lines. Probably took me longer to drill holes and fasten down the unit.

I give my PD9260C a good workout on every trip camping off the power grid...

Using my 2KW Honda generator I keep my battery bank charged up good every day.

Have had my PD9260C about four years now. Never a hiccup...

I installed my PD9260C closer to my battery bank so I left the 120VAC plug in place and installed a separate 120VAC receptacle for it.

My OFF-ROAD POPUP setup has this homemade Battery Monitor system and I get to watch my PD9260C provide around 53-54 AMPS of charge current everytime I start up in smart mode charging running off my 2KW generator.

I think you did good with your purchase.

    just my thoughts

  • When I upgraded my Magnatek I dismantled the old converter and crammed the PD replacement into the old slot --- if I had to do it over again I would perform a remote install of the PD and run wires - quicker, simpler and better ventilation.
  • same converter i installed in my fiver over a year ago, its plugged in all year and i check the batteries (interstate deep cycles) about 4-5 times a year and have yet to need any water in them, good converters for the money!!!
