Kitchen/Bath Backsplash

Installing peal and stick stone backsplash in the kitchen and bathroom. Is it necessary to remove existing wall paper prior to installation? Also, any recommendations to insure long term adhesion?
  • I removed the border paper but not the vinyl applied to the luan. Border paper was pre-glued with sticky glue. Warmed it up with DW's hair dryer and is
    it pealed right off.
  • That's a good idea to put it on plywood. I think that's what I'll do when I do our kitchen.
  • I attached my backsplash material to a quarter inch piece of plywood and screwed it to the wall. Of course it will stay in place, but I can also remove it leaving only some small screw holes.
  • No, they should stick better to the wall paper than they will to bare luan.
  • If you have no wallpaper peeling anywhere else in the camper then you will have no problem with the new backsplash sticking to the wallpaper behind your stove and sink either.
