LED light strip install

I install mine about 2 inches under the awning so that you could see the lights with the awning rolled up. The ones we have where ordered online and have a remote and can change the colors. Can choose about 200 different colors I think. Best of all they where only about $30.00 bucks. Have been using them for them for about a year now with no problems.

You can add as much wire as you want to the LED strip, most come with 6" or so but its just 12 volt wiring. I did mine the way I did it as I didn't want wiring running along the side of the trailer. I suppose that I could have ran wire straight up from my porch light and had two separate led strips running from the wiring but I replaced my porch light with a motion activated light and wanted to keep it separate from the led's.

I wanted to use a led strip but wasn't sure where to get power from. If you use your porch light for power, how do you hide the wiring from the porch light to the led strip?? Is the power cord for the led adj through the length of the led?
Not trying to hijack OPs thread but it sounded like he was doing the same thing I want to do.

Yes, last month.. a few inches below awning .. used gorilla Tape (Clear) will stay for years.. I used the pouch light for power.. removed the bulb.
and mounded 2 feet of same type of LED above the outside steps.(under ledge). to see top step at night.

and added a strip on the front of trailer .. half way up.

My advice, put them far enough down that with the awning rolled up, they will still be visible. that's only a few inches below the tube. that way you don't have to have the awning out for them to give good illumination.

Thanks for the info. I went down the street tonight and took a look at a guy's TT that has a factory installed strip. It's about an inch below the awning track. That's what I'm going to go with.

Also received today cool item for the wiring. It's an adapter, which is basically an 1156 bulb base with 2-wire leads out of it. I'll just remove the bulb from my porch light, put the adapter in its place and use the wire leads to power my light strip. Bingo! my light strip power is controlled by the porch light switch. You can find ANYTHING on the interwebs!

When we had our travel trailer I mounted a weather proof strip under the mounting bar about an inch.
But what I did to help the lights shine up wards was I bought some double sided tape and made it two strips thick and the. Cut it at an angle so it shines up towards the white under belly of the awning. It helped to not blind people and it did a great job of illuminating the area without being to over bearing.

On my aluminum sided toy hauler I washed the area with soapy water then cleaned it again with rubbing alcohol. The 3m adhesive seems to be holding very well. I tucked the LED wire under the speaker then zip tied it to the top of my awning assembly. The wire then hangs down the arm of my awning where I bungee ball tie it to the awning arm when in transit and just let it hang when the awning is deployed. On my battery I have a 2 pole flat plug that stays attached to the batteries and the capped end is under the battery hold down strap. I then use a 12' 2 pole flat extension cord to go between the battery and LED light wiring. I use this same 12'cord to hook to my water transfer pump when filling the trailer out of my water tank so its a 2 in 1 deal.

I have a dimmable one under the awning rail shining down and it's still plenty bright that I have to dim it all the way down. If it's one that has different colors they look much better glowing off the side of the trailer rather than looking at them straight on.
