Litter box solution

We have travelled with our cat for years. In all our various RVs I've always attempted to find some place to hide the litter box. The best solution we had was in a Fleetwood Jamboree Class C that had outside access doors to the space under the dinette seats. I just put a cat door in the 'kick panel' under the dinette and I could empty the box from outside. Our current Winnebago didn't have such a convenient arrangement so I commandeered one of the cabinets under the TV. I removed the shelf, added a cat door that's accessible slide in or out, and a strip of wood to keep the box in place. Cat enjoys her privacy!

  • Nice job! That's pretty slick. I'm trying out a few litter mats as she's tracking hers everywhere!
  • Looks good. I just bought a similar little kitty door. I have a small toy hauler and was planning on putting it between the living area and the under bed storage. Then I'm going to build a screen to put in the storage compartment door so I can leave it propped open when we're parked. Cats will enjoy the screen and it will help vent some of the box smell. I haven't gotten around to starting that project yet, but I will get it done soon.
  • Now THAT is the BEST RV cat litter box DIY install I have ever seen! :B

Gotta love you went the extra mile and installed a special hanger spot for the scoop!
  • How does your cat like the experience? Does it just tolerate the journey or does it seem to be well adapted?
I have one here that I'd like to take camping but wonder how she'll like the trip. The last time I had her in the truck for a trip to the vet, she didn't seem comfortable at all.

BTW, nice work on the litter box cabinet. I'm sure we'll be waiting a long time for that to be outdone!
  • We're lucky that we have a cat that enjoys riding in vehicles. She'll usually sit in my wife's lap or lay on the right side of the dash for the first hour or two then get bored and go in the back to sleep on her cat bed. I've had cats that hated riding but the last 3 have been real troupers.
  • Off topic but at our house, like most, there are a couple steps down into the garage. I used this height difference to advantage by building a plywood box for the litter box at house floor level that is in the garage but accessible to the cat through a cat door in the house. The box has a hinged side that opens for cleaning. The fact it is up higher in the garage is very good for my sore old back... not a fan of crawling around on the floor cleaning a litter box!

That probably has to do with your choice of litter.
