Looking for inexpensive upgrade for bunk mattresses....

We have a double sized bottom bunk and a twin sized top for our boys. Those standard "mattresses" are absolute garbage and I feel bad my boys have slept on them for 2 years now. I'd be open to a foam topper or something that's under $75 each that would help those things out some. The bottom one has a weird cut off corner, so I'm thinking the easiest route is two twins or whatever the RV world calls them. Thanks for any recommendations. I've looked in several local stores and only have found expensive memory foam toppers.
  • Problem is the bottom bunk has that angle and it's twice as wide. I'll measure them this weekend.

Like a queen size topper is 60 inches wide, will it make 2 30inch toppers to fit your bunks?

That's what we did for our bunks. I find them very comfortable and they're easy to cut to proper size (i.e. finding a RV bunk mattress is not trivial because they aren't usually standard size).
  • First thing we bought for our little TT a couple of years ago, even before we signed the papers, was a couple of Coleman air mattresses. We knew from past experience that RV foam was JUNK. We got the Coleman air mats cheap at Walmart and they're still going strong a couple of years later. The good thing is that you can suck all the air out with the pump and put them away in a cabinet if you really need to get them out of the way, but otherwise you can just leave them inflated and not have to mess with them.
  • My BH had standard size twin bunks. Got some serta's at SAMs Club for just shy of 100 dollars

  • Looks like $75 is a pipe dream. $125 is about the least expensive "foam" mattress I'm finding. I'm sure they're better than those things that came in it. It's like there's a bunch of old rags shoved in them, at least that's how they feel.
