Looking for the best hole filler on the inside of our RV

My wife is determined to remove the day/night shades and paint the walls of our 2 year old RV. The shade hardware needs to be removed and the holes filled. What suggestions do you have? I am thinking of a product that s flexible.

For screw holes in the luan, I'd think plain old spackling compound would work just fine. There's not much flexing going on in the 1/8" hole itself. This has the advantage of responding reasonably well to being sanded smooth once it's set.

If you do want something else, some sort of a paintable caulking compound would be fine. This is one of the very very few places where silicone would be appropriate for use in an RV, even, in my estimation.

Most Silicone is not able to be painted.
  • if luan get a tube of plastic wood type material. why use plaster on wood? and silicone would be dreadful.
but removing the shades permanently would be a silly idea, closely followed by painting the walls. JMHO

  • Painting the RV walls... intresting idea. What's on the wall currently? Wallpaper? Luan?

    Never thought of doing that.
  • No silicone in walls. I'd suggest to use a resin based spackling paste. For the usual homeowner, a lifetime's supply can be bought at a Sherwin-Williams store for under $10 in one can. This material adheres well to different materials and won't crack or shrink like more common acrylic spackling. It is easy to apply and is sandable/paintable.

  • I thought all RVs are holes that you fill with money? :)
