Since he is using multiple magnets, a single magnet string would be enough to hold a light, stainless steel door. No need to have a pair mating together. These Neodymium magnets are very strong. I use them for other purposes, not my entry doors, because my original latches are still working.
The strength of the magnets are rated in a scale from N1->N52, N52 being the strongest. For this door project, a 1/2"D x 1/8"T N46 would be adequate. There are also available, self adhesive magnetic strips encased in plastic. Those might afford a better bug-seal than individual magnets.
