"At some point it is time to give up and go home" -- preferably before too much snow falls and you can't go home! This almost happened to us boondocking in the Sierras a few years ago -- the forecast was for flurries --I wake up at one a.m. and it is silent outside.. I open the door to look at the stars -- nope, it's a blizzard, and ten wet inches have fallen. Uh-oh.
DW and I jump into action, gather our stuff, hitch up, and crawl out of there. The dirt and gravel roads getting out were ok -- but the highway had an inch of ice under the snow (the fresh snow had fallen on warm pavement and then froze). At 5 mph, the truck and trailer were sliding sideways on the banked highway curves at 3 a.m. -- hilarious!
No harm done. Lots of fun. Slept in the ranger parking lot.
PS -- the next day, the ranger tells us that there were two other RVs that did not get out in time -- had to call a tow truck with a plow from Fresno -- hundreds of dollars later, the other folks got out ok.
If I were a sound sleeper, we'd have gotten stuck, too.
