Previous owner of my TT added a second radio to use instead of the original radio which had broken. I decided to remove the old radio and am looking for creative suggestions on what to do with the 5x5" opening left by the radio...besides just covering it with a piece of trim or wood. The opening is in the side of the galley base in the doorway, so high traffic area. Thanks,

"Galley base" means bottom of the dinette? Is it easier to get to from the outside reaching in than from the inside bending down? Consider patching it and painting the back of the dinette with magnetic paint or chalkboard paint. If you have little kids or grand kids, they would love the chalkboard paint and the magnetic paint would allow you to decorate the back of the bench with magnets from places you travel or other fun stuff.Rust-oleum Specialty Paints

And yes it's definitely easier to reach from outside than inside bending down. Too low for key rack...that's already on the upper cabinet. Kids might like magnetic or chalkboard paint.

In our old Sunnybrook, I replaced the radio to add CD capabilities. Scrapped the old radio and made a CD storage rack where the old radio used to be.There is a thin 1/8" strip on the bottom of the opening where the CDs slide in to keep them in place while underway. The mount above the radio is for the XM receiver. I also added a cig outlet and shelf above the door for a place to charge cell phones and keep them away from the sink.

Thanks...definitely leaning this direction. Adding the cig outlets and USB for charging devices is a great idea.

Since you have 12v there for the radio, some cig outlets and USB outlets would be a great place to charge cell phones, iPods, etc. Could leave the cell phone plugged in and hear it ring and grab it from outside without having to go all the way in.

I would box it in, trim it out, and install an outlet tapping into the one next to it. Would make a good device charging station and the charging cords would be out of the way.

When all else fails, put a metal vent cover over it..would allow warm air to get back to plumbing in cold weather.

X2 This is what I would do, maybe not a metal panel though.

Had a hard time figuring what the pic was until I realized the pic is rotated 90 degrees.

Cubbyhole is a great idea...and yes that's the location. Here's a pic.

We don't listen to many CDs, but the same concept will apply. Maybe add a couple charging sockets or USB charger sockets nearby too.

Metal panel with voltage and amperage meters. Wire the meters to the batteries. IIRC, RoyB has his meters in the same location.

So if I am picturing this correctly, your talking about a base cabinet that has a sink just like the one posted above but the hole is in the side of the cabinet as you down the stairs. Depending on how the plumbing is laid out and how much you need the storage below that left hand side of sink,you might look at putting a cubby shelf built into the cabinet similar to the one the CD's are in in the pciture. It would be flush mounted so no issues with the step and give you a place to stash stuff that you use outside but dont want to have to come all the way in for. :Like a small mag light flashlight, a lighter for the grill/stove, bug spray, etc. or maybe you decide to make it bigger to stash something bigger. You could also make or buy a matching cabinet door to your cabinets from the dealer/manufacture to have a covered storage spot there.

Good luck in deciding your best options and needs.
