Picking up my new Grand Design TT (2670MK) next week. It has cheap fans in the living room and bedroom. Will be going to Fan-tastic or MaxxAir on both. Temp. sensing is a must. But what about rain? Should I go with the fancy rain sensing models that automatically close, or put vent covers over the fans on the outside? Or both?The old fifth in the signature just had a bedroom vent, and waking up with a wet spot on the bed when it rained overnight was not at the top of my fun list.

Personally I see no logic whatsoever to a vent that automatically opens and closes :h ... install a vent cover and leave the vent open 24/7, closing it only when you may be running A/C 24/7 in extremely hot weather. I likewise see no need for temp sensing either - just leave the darned vent open. ;)

My covers lets me run the fans when it's raining. I bought mine because it had a remote control and 13 speeds, not for the rain sensor. Having a cover on them is insurance and not relying on just the lid. The lid will probably last longer because it's not in direct sunlight. As far as getting smacked by a tree climb etc, the cover may be thicker and more forgiving than a lid.

I have two Fantastic Fans with covers on both - one with the rain sensor. All the rain sensors do is keep you awake at night if it is raining as they open and close the lid! :E Put a cover over the fan and you can run it during the rain and the lid will last forever. Mine are 13 years old and still look like new. Barney

I have that fan on mine and have never liked it. Mine makes far more noise for the amount of air moved than the Fantastic Vent fan or the Vortex fan.

thermostat seems to just control the fan not the lid.
I agree I would prefer the lid should close if the fan is off.

I had one of those on my previous trailer. That was by far the best fan we have had. It was just as powerful as the Fantastic Fan but much quieter. Wish they still made that model.

The had to be quieter with the fan motor mounted where it is.
I sure wish I could find one fore sale, new or used.
I wonder why they are no longer manufactured?

Have FF with rain sensors. Installed vent covers so that I can run fans when it is raining.

I wish I could fine a Maxxair like I put on our '02 mh that we traded for a new mh a couple years ago. It went over the roof vent and did about a 180 deg. U-bend, with the fan at the outlet end of the U-bend. The fan motor was a multi speed, and had a t-stat on it.

We have the Fantastic vents with rain sensors. I have gotten to the point where I have pulled the fuses out of them because they keep opening and turning themselves on even when the thermostats are turned off. I am giving serious consideration to buying new manual vents and getting vent covers.

I can't comment on the other options, but I have vent covers (Max Air) and Vortex fans. Last winter I accidentally left the roof vents open all winter. No rain nor snow got in even under pretty severe conditions. I can't complain about that.

Had a vent cover. It went away when I installed the FF with rain sensor.
Works for me in the bathroom. Bedroom vent never opens.

On edit:
I do miss the remote to allow those that cannot reach to be able to run the fan.
