new fan - vent cover or rain sensor?

Vent covers are the way I'd go.

We love the fantastic fan over our bed and it has a good cover so I never use the temp setting or the rain sensor.

I would go with the vent covers. One plus is if you ever crack one of your existing vents and don't know it, if you have the add-on vent cover like a Maxx Air, etc, your rig won't get flooded if it rains. Vent covers also crack by themselves from sun exposure eventually, btw.

I always take the simplest route. A cover has no moving parts, uses no power, uses no sensors, and thus is a lot less likely to fail.

I can just talk about what we have, so we have a thermostat controlled Fantastic Fan, with just a standard vent cover over it. We open and close the fan cover manually, but usually it just stays open. No rain sensor, because we didn't think it would work under the vent hood, as no rain ever gets to it. In our case, it is used to insure heat removal from the coach if power goes off, or when at home, just to keep it fromgetting too hot inside. We have had ours for many years, I think there are better options available now.

Get the MaxxAir. It comes with a built in cover. It is less expensive than the Fan-tastic and is easier to install, meaning there is no secondary install of an additional cover. I love mine.

I am also looking at the fan-tastic vent. Does anyone know the amp draw for the basic 1250 model?

I have two Fantastic Fans with covers on both - one with the rain sensor. All the rain sensors do is keep you awake at night if it is raining as they open and close the lid! :E

Put a cover over the fan and you can run it during the rain and the lid will last forever. Mine are 13 years old and still look like new.

My covers lets me run the fans when it's raining. I bought mine because it had a remote control and 13 speeds, not for the rain sensor. Having a cover on them is insurance and not relying on just the lid. The lid will probably last longer because it's not in direct sunlight. As far as getting smacked by a tree climb etc, the cover may be thicker and more forgiving than a lid.
