Opinion on changes to cabinets desired

There is a used 5'er that fits all the criteria on our punch list, except that there are obtrusive cabinets over the peninsula counters in a wrap style kitchen. There are support posts under the cabinet to the counter, which also takes up counter space.

I would like to remove a couple of the cabinets, especially since these poles are taking up counter space. What would this leave? Will the ceiling need to be replaced in that area? Will the ceiling fall in?

You might want to look at easier, cheaper, better looking options before you start carving up a unit.

For instance, any decent kitchen cabinet shop can make you replacement doors with glass (or plexiglass) panels. If the cabinets are glass both sides they don't seem nearly as imposing.

That is a fabulous idea!!!!! I love it!!! Thank you!!! Now, we can seriously consider this one as a possibility!!! :)

  • for your first camper you should accept it as it is built. don't like the layout; don't buy it. You are over analyzing everything. Get you choices down to 3 rv's and make your choice. too many questions on this forum will only confuse you since everyone have different likes. Pick one. I think at this pace you will never be satisfied with any rv. questioning is fine, you did that, now it's time to pick one.
  • The Cabinets can be removed, but will leave marks and screw holes. With a bit of luck these will only be cosmetic and cover or disguise.

Worse case ,You might have to put them back in place!
  • I would certainly listen to someone (likely here on this forum) about all that is involved. I don't think it would be as simple as just removing a few cabinets.

Since you have looked at so many units and not being sure about exactly what you have seen, why don't you custom order a unit? It may save you time and money in the long run.
  • The cieling will not drop but some creativity will be needed to hide the spot on the cieling and attachment damage....

Which 5'er did you find that's "off-gassing" free?

Many, actually, but used for sure.
