I HOT GLUED PLASTIC SCREEN TO THE INSIDE LOUVERS.
Me too. - Pig-SmokerExplorerHad the same problem. Instead of buying the costly screens from a RV store I bought some screen porch wire for about $11.00 and a box of self tapping screws and covered every vent from fridge , water heater , stove vent , AC , heater and any other hole. Cost less than one screen from a RV store. That was two years ago and no problems.
- Reddog1Explorer III use 1/8-inch Hardware cloth in all openings, on all of my TCs. It is typically available at hardware stores, sold by the running foot (about $3). The 1/8" mesh is the same size as store bought screens. I have hot glued, duct taped, riveted, and used screws to install it.
The 1/8-inch mesh does not restrict air flow as much as screen. I usually have to purchase the mesh for the furnace, due to the shape of the exhaust.
Typically, I install the hardware cloth every place wasp and other critters can get in; Fridge door, fridge top vent, propane vent, stove vent, and water heater vent.
If wasp or mud dauber build nest in your furnace, you have a real potential for a fire. You have to pull the furnace and disassemble to remove their nest. - slarsenExplorerI hot-glued screening, too, and it has worked great for the past 3 years. No spider web clogging, either. And yes, I screened the water heater enclosure, and the furnace (using purchased guard).
- Chuck_GailExplorerWhile you're ordering, don't forget furnace and water heater screens!
- dragr1ExplorerThanks guys, exactly what I was looking for-about to order!
