I would be wary about oily chemicals made from petroleum by products and what they can do to the PLASTIC (which IS ALSO made from petroleum products).
You REALLY don't want to see what happens when your stinky slinky decides to fail with a full black tank.. :E
The vinyl fence post is a popular mod which eliminates the rusting issue altogether. There is another plastic tube you could use also, 6" PVC could be used, nice thing about that is you can get threaded end plugs for a safe and secure method of keeping the slinky in place.. May need to drill a couple of drain holes..
I put mine into a small storage tub with lid then place the storage tub in my external tool box mounted to my modified heavy duty bumper.
