Question about painting inside RV

Is it possible to paint the walls and ceiling in a RV? I have a travel trailer and would like to paint the walls and the ceilings, what type of paint would you use? And is it durable? I could wall paper, but I would prefer to paint the walls and ceilings, but don't know what type of paint to use. Any suggestions would be most helpful!

  • Good advice so far. I have never done a TT but do rehab and flip mobile homes...same idea. Kilzs primer ( i think the old oil base stinky kind is best with plenty of ventilation ) then a very good grade of latex paint. Scrubbing is always good but may not be necessary if there is not a lot of grease etc on the walls. Good primer is a must!
  • You'll need to use oil based Kilz first. After that, you can use interior household paint (water based). The water based stuff won't stick to the vinyl wallpaper covered paneling in most rvs.
  • I have friends that bought a used one and it was ugly and it smelled so they bought some of that killz sealer primer and painted the whole thing. Let it sit for a couple days then painted smooth white over everything. Looks brand new inside. They painted right over the ugly wallpaper or whatever that stuff was.
  • Sure. First thing you need to do is thoroughly scrub the surface with TSP. Prime with the best primer you can buy and then paint it with your favorite color of latex paint. Ask your paint store for specifics, but that's what I did.
