The average awning is getting longer.
Velcro comes in different strengths. Even if it didn't increase the number of strips.
Stick the lights to the awning tube with velcro of enough or strong enough strips to support whatever weight.
Still have to go outside but the hooks etc on the velcro and velcro could just zip down.
Might not be fool proof but it's an idea.
