Replacing TV

Finally getting around to upgrading the main television from the heavy anchor dinosaur tv that is in the unit to a flat screen. However, I notice that the plug for the house speakers is a typical phono plug, like headphones, where my only sound output is the more up to date component outputs on the flat screen. Can anyone point me to a good adapter that will be sure to work with a female phono plug to the 2 coloured audio male plugs to plug into the back of the new one? Nothing bothers more than trying 2 or 3 different types before finding one that works.

Thanks
  • Is there an amplifier of some sort involved here? Those RCA audio jacks are line level outputs and won't power speakers directly.

Also: BTW/FYI Component output jacks also use RCA type plugs but carry only video feed.
  • The headphone type jack. I need a cable with the one female end that this headphone jack will plug into and the 2 coloured ends that will plug into the tv.
  • Describe what you have for the speaker's connection, please. What is on the end of the wires from the speakers?
