Replacing worn, cracked decals
Well here goes:
This thread will document my replacement of my worn and Cracked decals. My trailer is now 9 years old and the factory decals should have been replaced a couple of years ago.
They are in rough shape to say the least. So I did some research, and decided to take a whack at it. I bought a quart of crystaltek vinyl off, a heat gun, and a plastic putty knife. I used the vinyloff according to their directions, and it worked well. 2 hours later I had a white sided trailer. (That's 2 hours for 1 side)
I had researched replacement graphics and although our trailer has served us well, I didn't feel the need to advertise for Keystone any longer. Replacement graphics are EXPENSIVE.
So I had decieded to paint the graphics back on. I first cleaned the surface with simple green and water. Then I masked off where I wanted the new graphics, which just happened to be where the old graphics were, using the faded lines from the old graphics as guide as to where to mask. I used green frog masking tape, it left nice clean lines. I spent about 1 hour masking, and then did several coats of paint with rustolem paint. Total today about 4 hours prepping, masking, and painting for 1 side.
I am happy with the results so far.
I know I have a window to replace, it is on order and is another story all together
I have a local sign shop working on a custom vinyl decal for the front and back, and will post pictures of that once it is done.
All in all, I am satisfied with the way it is turning out, way better looking than before.
