Orion, in the Konforts we've owned from the factory they have had a 1x2 on a spring loaded hinge that can be moved against the hangers to keep them from coming off. We don't always use them as we haven't had problems with things coming off. Also we don't have a rod, but a bar with slots to put the hangers into so they don't slide side to side
