RV thermostat AC only

I never used my propane heater in my 5th wheel. I just use electric heaters. My thermostat is a digital one that was not the original. It used to cycle the air on and off, but last summer it stopped showing the correct temperature on the display and will only work on or off. I am going to replace the thermostat and since I do not use the heat part wondering if I can just put a regular house thermostat in. The 5th wheel is parked permanently in an RV park and hooked to the electric plug.

  • I replaced my old analog Coleman with digital Honeywell - major improvement - just select one that comes with batteries. Install is pretty straightforward and lots of "how to" threads on this forum.
  • I actually have found the original thermostat. It is a Coleman analog one. Neither it or the RVP digital that is on now had batteries. I was thinking about getting another simple analog one for AC only.
  • It all depends on the make and model of the air, and which thermostat it uses. Most can easily be replaced, but the DuoTherm CCC systems cannot be.
  • YES a regular digital t-stat will work provided you get one that uses batteries for the display.

Hunter, Honeywell are popular ones that many RVrs have used to replace the analog t-stats in their RVs for several years
  • Most common is the Hunter Douglas digital. The one you want is self powered by a pair of AA batteries.
